  • They don't recommend it for corporate situations, which is a relief. What if an employee left & the machine was inaccessable? But think of the fun when a user calls in not able to log in! "I want a new fiiinnnngger!" -Tekkie
  • "The finger you are using has performed an illegal operation and will be amputated." *chop* I have a fingerprint reader at home (not Microsoft). It's too geeky not to at least have a little fun with. It doesn't seem to like Firefox, but it works pretty well with XP file encrypting, Winzip passwords, etc. It's more fun than anything, but it works pretty well for one-touch logging onto the system. -teivrann
  • There was an article on /. about a year back where some researcher had found that a fingerprint reader could be fooled by a fake fingerprint that was made with a handy gelatinous substance... a gummy bear. While I agree that they are fun to play with, IMHO they are no more secure than passwords... but harder to forget. -chazz

  • Yeah, they're talking to college students - present membership excepted - we all know the intelligence level of the people they're interviewing. I guess if they don't mind the place knowing their credit card number then they get whatever they deserve as a result. -redevil34
  • What absolute idiots!!!! Sorry, that's just so much crap. Spyware's bad, regardless of it's 'usefulness', you just... guh. People are stupid. -Mahal
  • "passwords, credit card numbers and bank account numbers, information that is supposed to be viewable only by the sender and the intended recipient -- is accessible to Marketscore, since the company has developed a method that allows it to view encrypted information."...Duh I dont see any problem with that. Fair is fair. Fucking dipshits. I want to get off this world. -burrkiss
  • Of course anyone with half a brain would know there are free programs that replace those with spyware. E.G. Roboform replaces Gator. But the person who wrote the article does not have half a brain. -Gerund
  • I'm absolutely aghast that some people are *accepting* spyware as necessary for free software. Ahem, open source anyone!?!? Extraordinary. This is why governments find it so easy to erode civil rights. I'm off to find some pro-spyware noobs and beat them up with my old shareware directory (hard copy - remember those!?) :D -modeski
  • I can't wait for interstellar colonization. As Heinlein observed (in "Time Enough for Love") if the most intelligent 1% leave the planet Earth, the reduction in the homeworlds average intelligence is barely reduced while the offworld intelligence level is immensly high. After a couple of migrations like this, the resulting populations will have an average intelligence at least twice as high as on the homeworld. At that time, the Earth will keep going on its merry way populated by starfish, and WE will be leading the human race into a beautiful future. Yeah, I know, I'm a dreamer. -Captain Trips
  • These will be the same people to be the first to complain when their information gets spread out over the web and their 'identities' get stolen! -ecoli
  • The part in the story where people would install Gator on their work PCs but not on their home ones implies that the IT departments aren't clamping down on users that do stupid things to make their jobs even harder. If I find anything on a PC here that doesn't belong I remove it. If I find the same user/PC with the same stuff again...I remove it again and then report them to their manager. -Starfury
  • Y'know Starfury, I do the same thing. Remove the software, point to the part of the company handbook that says it's grounds for termination, then report it to management. Then management does...nothing. Policy's got to be enforced with real concequences or the cow-irkers go back to chewing their cud. -Cybersaurus
  • Our IT Department complained about users installing contraband software on work PC's. Then a new Exec. Sr. VP (supposedly born again...etc) brought in to fix things demanded that we provide him with a list of the users and the software that they installed. He backed off real quick though when he was the first one on the list when we found screen captures of a webcam for an escort service he was dealing with (while his wife was in Atlanta). (No offense intended to those of you who may be "born again" and are sincere about it.) -normntaz

  • I just had a funny thought. What if Microsoft bought IBM? The irony would be that IBM's former supplier of MS-DOS for it's first computer would be buying out its former customer... -LinuXtreme
  • Does that make sense? Doesn't to me. I can't see IBM selling the business and allowing an unrelated thrid party to use the IBM name (a joint venture might be another matter). And, the main reason people buy IBM is because of the name and IBM's (deserved) reputation for support. Without Big Blue behind them, why should anyone buy the boxes ?. Especially if they try to retain IBM's higher pricing. Pay IBM prices for some Made in China unknown company product. I don't think so. -jedidiahstott
  • That's a shame. It's too bad I probably won't get a chance to buy another Thinkpad actually made by IBM. My two laptops were both Thinkpads, and the last one survived a six foot fall with only a loosened PC card slot assembly and slight breakage of the plastic fan exhaust grille. I was able to open the unit up and reseat the PC card assembly to get it working again, too. And they didn't come with all the useless crap you see from most other manufacturers. And then you have corporate contracts. Who's going to buy IBM boxes in bulk if they get sold to a Chinese company? -NightSteel
  • IBM exiting the PC business? I guess they think that they're not really going to catch on. -Fuji
  • This http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/04/business/worldbusiness/04asia.html shows the direction of (soon to be ex) IBM's quality. It appears that big blue will soon be big black-and-blue -srteach
  • "I just had a funny thought. What if Microsoft bought IBM? '84 you're a clone, '04, Big Blue ownz u!1!!!1 :: I've never had an issue w/my IBM PCs (exclude HDD); if IBM does drop PCs I'm gonna have no one's to reccomend but my own... oh yeah & other TSC members -objekt404
  • IMHO, IBM is selling it's PC divisions that are M$ liscense dependent. They _may_ continue to make computers, but sell them with a linux based OS. This is a current hot topic on groklaw... -maciarc
  • Last time I checked, there was no way that MS could purchase IBM because IBM was several orders of magnitude larger. Sure MS is big in software, but IBM has single divisions that are approximately the same size as MS. Admittedly, this was 3 years ago. -Shazzai
  • I doubt MS would be interested in a PC Hardware devision, the profit margins aren't all it's cracked up to be from what I hear. Now if ever (doubt they would) spin off Notes/Domino I can see MS being very interested as in the enterprise it is far superior to Outlook/Exchange. -fearmyroot

  • They're very human sounding. Like all the almost human voices, though, they eat and drink memory. I think the BOFH said it best, though he wasn't talking about these voices. "Not so much resource hungry as resource addicted". Don't try buying them unless you have a gig of RAM. If you do, though, they work nicely, particularly if you don't want to increase the speed to 300 WPM or more (they get choppy) or use them for long reading jobs. -BTcall

They're available for purchase at http://www.nextuptech.com Of course, your processor has to be quite modern. I believe minimum is set at 400 (required, not recommended). I'd say at least 1.2 for reasonable responsiveness. Note that I'm using them with a screen reader, which means I value speed over almost everything else. -BTcall

Bread is not your enemy, it's the mound of shit you put on it and the number of sammiches you make out of it that you should be minding. I avoid low fat, low calorie, low carbohydrate foods -- unless that's how they normally appear in nature, no 'special formula' moneygrubbing involved. I *highly* suspect that in 20 years, millions of people will have colon cancer because they weren't getting enough fiber in their diets. How come? Cuz they avoided grains out of paranoia about carbs! • Owie: Greedo shots at the same time in the tweaked, tweaked version. Better, but still not as cool as Solo shooting first. -Armakuni
  • Just a thought, but if the DVD's are the films he originally wanted to make, where are the scenes from Toshe power station where we first meet Biggs Darklighter? Or other such scenes that got removed by Fox to make it shorter? Or the scene in the Death Star where Han tells Chewie if "the kids" aren't at the ship when they get there they'll just go? (not that I'm a geek or anything..) But, ep 3 looks good. And the DVD's aren't too bad.. -NightRain
  • I've actually seen the Tosche Station (Anchorhead) scenes -- it was at the 20th anniversary program at San Diego Comic Con, they brought the scenes of Luke seeing the battle, racing to the power station, and his scenes interacting with Biggs Darklighter. It was a one-time, special for ComicCon, never to be seen again sort of thing. Of course, this was also from the same people that said "the Star Wars movies will NEVER be shown on commercial television, don't even expect it to happen." (A New Hope torn apart for commercials is a tragic sight, one I've seen too many times to believe all the LucasFilm Ltd. hype.) But, I look at it like an author coming out with the second, third, et.al., editions of a novel, in which he changes things he decides he didn't like in the original. Hey, it's his toys, he can modify them as he likes. But I still say "Han shot first!" -Captain Trips
  • Yeah, I'm bitter. I was 7 years old for the original release, and it warped my brain patterns, condemning me to a life of dorkness. The new, "improved" versions induce serious cognitive dissonance. And just wait--as soon as somebody scrounges up decent copies of the originals, converts them, and puts them up online, Lucas will scream like hell, even though he's proud of abandoning them. Feh. -Owie
  • They should put some of those Jar Jar binks creatures in all the new versions of starwars! -EggShen

  • 17" CRT? Yikes! I guess Systemax had a load of them to off-load. Although it does seem to be quite a reasonable system in most repects. Won't do super-duper graphics but fine for most stuff. Not that'd I get one obviously. -fearmyroot
  • That is a great deal I think. Check out the stats. http://tinyurl.com/7yy7q Comes with a monitor and a printer. 40 gb drive and 256 memory - I still wouldn't take one but I'm sure this is going to be a big seller. -jard

  • Let's hear it for cheep crap you don't need at highly inflated prices! -vacuumtubes
  • As someone who's paycheck is signed by Systemax, I can say the following: 1) Yes, there is an overstock of the 17" CRTs; any customized PC gets one free with it. 2) Yes, it does beat an e-machines, because for the same price we sell a refurbed machine. Granted, it's a slower processor, but this is a new machine. 3) AOL can thankfully be uninstalled. Maybe not completely, but to the point where it's no longer a part of day-to-day operations. -exzyle2k

The iMac G5's hinge isn't strong enough to bear the full weight of the iMac stand if the stand is (ab)used as a carry handle, they've already had returns from fuckwits who have done precisely this. A little more info into 'WHY' to pick the thing up by its sides would have been useful, but thats Apple for ya. -Digital Dogcow

  • A quick squint at the linked article and well, I fail to see what actual difference this will make. A lot of 'spyware' is installed by the consumer and on the originating webpage (or host program) there it is in the small print exactly what this thing will and will not do. True in days of yore this wasn't always the case but it is now. All this bill actually does is give spyware vendors a legal sheild, "Yes your honour, it is made quite clear on this webpage, that you can get to by following this precise path of links, that if you install our software it will do this." -fearmyroot

  • Below that article is a link to another one explaining why he did it (found at http://tinyurl.com/4qttk ). Basically he says that the modified versions are how he wanted it originally, but couldn't make it. -Jebus
  • "Q: Why not release both the originals and special editions on DVD? LUCAS: The special edition, that's the one I wanted out there. The other movie, it's on VHS, if anybody wants it. ... " - heh, that says it all :P -Mephiston
  • Well, he's done the same thing to THX-1138 http://www.thx1138movie.com/ -LaserGuru
  • The originals being bad excuse is bull. I have a friend with the movies on 12" LASER DISC. I'm sure he can pull something decent off of them. Film doesn't go bad that way. -Chronotis
  • I also don't buy the "this is the movie I wanted to make but didn't" story. However, I look at it more like a novel, with both first and second revisions having been released. Authors do it, why not directors? Look at The Hobbit -- the first edition had Gollum GIVING the ring to Bilbo, and following through on his promise to lead him out of the caverns. The revision has the story we all now know -- where Bilbo FOUND the ring. Tolkein washed it away with "well, the first time round Bilbo lied." Well, Lucas is only doing the same thing with his stories -- changing it to how he feels better tells the story he wants it to be now. And, as Year9595 said, it's his sandbox, so he can play whatever game he wants. Me, I'm looking forward to what he has done to it this time. -Captain Trips
  • I don't know why people make such a big deal about this. I mean, it's his "vision" why can't he retro-edit? Then again, at least Peter Jackson offers fans both the Extended and Theatrical. -Zentar
  • Chronotis - Mind you, I am repeating what I heard on National Public Radio USA last week. The original negative had so many copies made of it, there is about 50 partials of dirt per frame. Compared to 15 for other popular films of the same time frame. So, they started with latter versions of the negatives for this DVD. -Year9595
  • <Shrug> Sounds like most of the changes were minor to make it flow better with the prequels. As for the Hobbit - Tolkien revised it to make it work better with the more sinister aspect of the LotR. -Hellion
  • I don't want to see his silly revisions. Boba Fett does NOT have a Kiwi accent. The Emperor did NOT talk to Vader about Skywalker being his son in ESB. Hayden should NOT be superimposed into the final shot of Jedi. Greedo did NOT shoot first. I encourage eveyone who loves the originals to go to eBay and buy the Definitive Collection Laserdiscs and an old LD player. Lucas has no intention of releasing the original, unmolested versions onto DVD, so the Definitive LD collection is the best we are going to get. -MaxarRe

  • (Firefox rules) Isn't this similar to what MS tells Wall St. every year? It's always doom and gloom predictions so that the analysts keep their performance estimates low and then MS comes in and beats them. Personally, I think Wall St. is at the heart of half the problems with our (USA and possibly the world's) economy. If public companies weren't so driven to perform because of the need to appease the stockholders, they wouldn't have to cut corners, outsource, eliminate services, etc. Case in point is EagleEye's rant in the break room: "Gotta keep our food costs down". To that, I say "bovine excretia". If you don't keep the customers happy, the only ones left will be the ones that have no other choice.</rant> -virtualchoirboy

  • VCB, Wall St and other such things aren't to blame, really. What happened in the past was you'd see how a company did over a year or two, now everyone's all over a company to do well *every* quarter. And to look good per quarter they have to really screw things up. Short term gain, not long term plan. -NightRain

It fully supports large hard disks, large memory, FAT32 drives, Long File Names (LFN), etc. It has lots of enhancements over older versions of DOS, such as MS-DOS 6.x. And at the same time, it offers excellent upward/downward compatibility. With it, you can run both Windows 3.x GUI and Windows 9x (95-98SE, a.k.a. Win4.x) GUI on top of MS-DOS 7.10. It’ll let you make free phone calls to your friends all over the world. And we don’t want any money for it. It’s free. You could think of us as the big, free Internet telephony company. • Forgive my suspicion and cynicism, but this software was developed by the same people that developed that infamous piece of spyware-infested bloatware, Kazaa. Is it trustworthy, oh ye trusting one? -Magenta
  • so far, not a glitch, and nothing found that shouldn't be there. -obie099
  • I'll admit, that is really weird. A buddy of mine really started getting into it, but as far as I know, you don't get something that is advertized this much for nothing. Something is amiss... -ShiftedBeef
  • "makers of Kazaa"... probably means that they haven't linked it to spyware/advertising/virii network in version 1. What are they going to implement in version 2 or 3? They want to geta BIG user base, then turn on the money vacuum (for them), same as they did with Kazaa.... They make BIG money onthe back end. -srteach
  • i was skeptical about skype at first too. honestly its not a bad little program and so far all my spyware/adware scans come up clean. its been a big help keeping in contact with dreadpirate being across the pond. stringlessmarionette should anyone wanna try it. just identify yourself in a message first :) -marionette
  • of course, it could be something like ICQ - get lots of users hooked on it, and then sell it to AOL for lots of Moola, and let them add the bloatware -madonnac
  • What a bunch of pessimists! It works now. Use it now. It stop working. Srop using it. Sheesh. -obie099
  • AFAIK they're going to geta decent userbase, and start offering paid-for calls to landlines. skype-to-skypre's supposed to stay free. -trs998

  • Guys, so far it's decent. AVG and Ad-aware are coming up clean, and it's a fun program. Plus, it's easy to use. If you want to chat real-time, it's great. If you're like me, and you're kinda shy and don't always know what to say...there's always IM. -snowcrash

There's no point in acting all surprised about it. Don't start a flame war, get my email from my whiteboard, and direct your responses to me. Yet, Before you start, I want to tell you. I served 10 years in the military, I have multiple medals, and one of my units MOST respected officers was obviously gay. Although we didn't ask-or-tell. That's beside the point... • MY name is Rhiannon, and i aprove this message: god i'm tired of hearing that, i just love watching a bush commercial that was supposed to make me not like Kerry that actually pointed out more reasons im on the democratic side of the fence. -rhiannon
  • Personally: I'm all for Bush. I feel that if it wasn't for him and some other republican leaders we would still be "talking" and not getting problems ( think welfare crisis, war on terror, ect) solved. Now I understand that these are some of the same reasons that people are voting democrat. Of course, this is all IMHO -jard
  • Im a registered republican but Im not voting Bush this year. I regret that I voted for him last time. I havent decided that I will vote for Kerry yet. But a vote for anyone else will be a vote for Bush -mikeatnight
  • "Don't start a flame war"!? WTF do you think you just did? You post an all-encompassing, general political statement and you don't want to start a flame war?? I don't mind off topic posts, but this just takes the cake. OK, my turn: A vote for Kerry, is a vote for higher taxes, bigger government, higher spending, and socialized medicine. Unlike your statement, mine is verifyable. Oh and of course you'd like responses to your PUBLIC statement to be made in PRIVATE. Wouldn't want an open debate, would we? -scooby111
  • Almost wish I were american, just so I'd care... well, I do, actually - Bush is responsible for more environmental waste and hazards than many other administrations I can think of. Don't think that's important? -namor
  • I so wish these would stop...as if there are not enough of us on here to cover just about any possible political view. That aside this is an issue that needs to be addressed nationaly - Why, you ask? Simple, imagine getting married in one state then moving to another and having your marriage not be allowed/recognized - now imagine what issues arise from having your marriage/status as each other's spouse go poof...how much does that affect your lives? I don't really care one way or the other how this goes but it needs to be the same rule from the entire country, not differing rules in each state. Considering how health care/medical insurance/coverage is now, imagine throwing the additional factor of "What happens if the state you're in now doesn't recognize your marriage?" -redevil34
  • Equal rights are equal rights. Not special rights. Speaking as one of the very few gay people on this site, and definately one of the only very "out" ones, I have no idea why any self respecting gay individual would want to join that fucking hetero-only club known as marriage. Why? So you'll feel more "normal". Good luck. As long as marriages can be performed perfectly legally BY THE FUCKING STATE, they should have no say on the gender of the people involved. Fine, if you church has an issue with it. Why start thinking rationally now? As far as Bush or Kerry, can we just try the next fours years without a president. I don't give a flip who is in the white house as long as they aren't a lying, thieving, two faced, hidden agenda bastard. And, btw, what the hell is wrong with socialized medicine? Seems to work fine in England. -obie099
  • Wow, did I say that out loud? -obie099
  • And Canada. The only reason I can think of why gays would want marriage is for the bennies: tax breaks, insurance, and all those other perks that single or committed-not-married people don't get. Get rid of the spiffs that wedded couples of any flavor get and that will take most of the flavor out of the concept of marriage for gays (and more than a few straights, it's like marrying someone for citizenship purposes). -Mushroom

USB: I've learned not to yank the CF card out of my Dazzle, the write-behind on my machine can be delayed a good deal and then an error msg comes up saying the action I'd thought was complete long before wasn't. Email reading: The article mentions that the PATRIOT Act allows the reading of mail of suspicious persons but doesn't mention that the Act is quite nebulous about who/what contrues a terrorist so it has been used against people who aren't plotting crimes against the State. DOS: Well, shit, if you're only selling it in India and Singapore, no kidding that it isn't moving more than a million units a year? Add it up, MSFT dickheads. -Mushroom
  • I could argue that defraging, even on todays large monster drives can be VERY useful! If the author does want to believe it, then I'd suggest he take a 100GB drive, load up up with MP3's (or some other shit) then spend a few days deleting on here, and there, then adding a few more. Get some good fragmentation built up, and see if the system slows down. For better results, change to a FAT filesystem first! -garwain

It runs at about 8Mbt over the powerlines and can't go through transformers or subsations. The company that we talked to gets around that by having a wireless antenna that "injects the signal into the powerline, a repeater at every transformer that acts as an wireless AP and also extracts it then injects the signal back, and an extractor at the end point. The distance limit is about 1/4 mile before you need a repeater. <sigh> The cost is $5000 per device. Nope, no thank you. It'd be cheaper to run ethernet to all the houses. -scooby111

Not only could she not spell (half the time, you couldn't even guess at what she was trying to convey in her notes)...she admitted to me after being hired that she had lied about having a high school diploma in order to get the job, and she was consistantly rude to customers. One time she came back bragging about how she had "LART'ed" a customer. He wanted to speak to a manager because...well, she sucks at customer service, and she tells him "Why? There's nothing my boss is going to do about it" and refused to tell the customer how to get ahold of our boss. -csatguru

  • In civil matters, behave reasonably toward others even as you prepare for them to behave unreasonably toard you. In war, prepare to withstand whatever your enemy may bring against you and return it a hundred-fold, for defeat may mean eradication. If survival lies only in victoy, philosphy may be welcome afterward. (loosely translated) -Hsu Xien, 960 A.D. -Skylark
  • To continue from the soapbox... Americans and their buddies where supposed to go to Iraq and "save" the people there from dictatory, Saddam's brutality and save the world from his deadly weapons. Almost one year later, no weapons where found, thousands innocents (from both sides) have lost their lives and the so-called liberators, put in prison innocents and torture them because they MIGHT have something to say, some information to reveal. We are not talking about just taking pictures of their genitalia. Read some articles on the web about the other pictures that the US gov doesnt allow to be shown in the states. See the pictures from rapings, men and women, by soldiers! See the videos of soldiers shooting the prisoners in the prison and laughing. Search around to see what they hide from you. Some of the soldiers there became what they were supposed to be fighting against. And i am not saying that the killing of that young guy was justified. Those who did it must pay. But not all people in Iraq. Just like not any soldier in Iraq is a rapist or a sadist, all the people in Iraq arent murders and dont support this brutality. Retaliation only brings more killings. And they have been enough already. -AmdInside
  • <devils advocate> How is this mans death any worse than that of a civilian during the bombing by US forces? Is an Iraqi womans' life somehow of less import than that of another civilian who had actually travelled from his safe home country to be there? I'm sure all the people who become termed as "collateral damage" weren't involved in the conflict. As for Daniel Perle, sending someone with his religious convictions to Pakistan was sheer folly. </devils advocate> -lineswine
  • <devils advocate to the devils advocate> The killing of innocents in a time of war happens. It's not encouraged or even sought after, but it does happen, unfortunate as it is. There will be collateral damage when that much destruction is being weilded. This is why War should be a last resort, but sometimes it's the only language that some people understand.</devils advocate> I don't think that everything that has been done by the US Forces / US Leadership was correct, but I still support them. As for the "questionable acts" of our military, well until there is hard evidence, then it's still speculation. Our military is pretty big on the rights of an individual, but then there are always those people who cross the line, and if they did, they'll be prosecuted for it. As for our enemy... we're talking w/ them in a language they can understand. -duckhead
  • OK, here my 2 cents worth. I personally feel that this should never have been a war of liberation. It really wasn't so don't call it that. The reason we are having so many problems with resistance, IMHO, is that the war was not horrible enough. You didn't see large scale resistance by the Japanese or the Germans after world war 2 for one good reason. The war was just as horrible for them as it was for us. War is not surgical at its best and it shouldn't be. Whena the war is over everyone should have had their fill of death to last them some time. Why do you think the Germans and Japanese are so hesistant to join us in this. It is because they still have plebty of people alive who remember us fire bombing tokyo, dropping a-bombs and the total destruction of dresden and berlin. War should be a terrible thing, so that people do not want to fight again. World war one for all its death was fought outside of most major cities. It is a terrible and callous thing to say but it has to be said, if you are going to war you must fight a total war and you must totally defeat your enemy for there to be any peace afterword. -ewspy87
  • My two cents: It is stupid to get into a debate about who started what. On both sides, you can go back as far as the stone ages, or as a far back as either side needs to justify their actions. If a man drowns in a river, at what point was the water too deep? Where it went from snow run off to stream to bigger stream, until it joined with the river? To the snow that fell on the glacier whose run-off feeds the streams? To the ocean? You can go back as far as you want, the man still drowned, and finding the accountability is a moot point. There are grisly murders, for inane reasons, every year done right here at home. There are even gorier tales then this. And I can give you an example of the murder of a couple of teen girls that probably no one outside of the immediate area I live in is even aware of that had details a LOT worse then what happened to that poor gentlemen. Murder, whether you call it "war" or whether you call it "payback" or whatever the hell you want to call it, is still murder. Torture is still torture, for that matter. In the end, why it was done is not important. The fact that it was done is not important. It IS done, and you can't take it back, but perhaps you can prevent it by NOT trying to find the next jump in the blame game. Cliche, but still very true. One other thought: Would this be getting as much attention if he had been murdered in the US by a neighbor? -Dragones
  • If anyone wants the link to the beheading. http://www.consumptionjunction.com/content/detail.asp?ID=34947&type=1&page=1&fav=0 but I would recommend not eating before or planning to after....yeah what our soldiers did was this bad.pffft -burrkiss
  • Well, if you read the article he was killed by the terrorist group that performed the 9/11 attacks. There was no reason for his death other than HATRED. It had nothing to do with the war in Iraq. There was no military advantage, it wasn't a handful of misguided fools, it wasn't collateral damage from war, or some psychopath. It was a group formed to committ these kinds of acts. These people are a cancer. There is no reasoning or possibility of diplomacy with them. The only answer is extermination. -Hellion
  • One other thought: Would this be getting as much attention if he had been murdered in the US by a neighbor? well.. that depends if the murder showed the muurder on t.v. Personally i think the media needs to back down and let the poor family grieve in peace. As for th U.S. even being in iraq, i think we are there with good intentions but the militarry needs to scale down. I have no problems with helping Iraq to rebuild after all we caused some of the damage. Thats all i will say on this mater. -Servo

  • Will people quit it with the "Sea of Glass" and nuke Iraq stuff please? Can we just keep anything flame worthy buried somewhere else other than the front page? -fearmyroot
  • AmdInside - OK, I'm calling you on the carpet. You say that "no weapons where found". No, no weapons have yet been found, but we HAVE found many methods from which those weapons could be manufactured very quickly. Not enough? Fine. How about the mass graves of people that the regime murdered. You say, "thousands innocents (from both sides) have lost their lives". Not true. perhaps hundreds of innocent Iraqis and dozens of american innocents. There has never been a war so clean and surgical as this one. I daresay that hundreds of lives lost in the right cause is a high price to pay, but is acceptable. In the end the whole region will be better and the future Iraqi children will have a chance to breathe free. Possibly hundreds of millions of future people will have a chance for freedom. I consider that worth it. I'd be happy and proud to put my life in danger for those odds and so would most of our military. You say, "put in prison innocents and torture them because they MIGHT have something to say, some information to reveal". You'd better back that up. The US has only jailed armed combatants as far as I know. You say, "Read some articles on the web about the other pictures that the US gov doesnt allow to be shown in the states See the pictures from rapings, men and women, by soldiers!" Got a link? I do. Try: http://news.bostonherald.com/localRegional/view.bg?articleid=27679 Guess what. Those pictures were produced in europe and are staged porn. You say, "See the videos of soldiers shooting the prisoners in the prison and laughing." Got a link? I didn't think so. You say, "Some of the soldiers there became what they were supposed to be fighting against." Yep. Guess what. Take a human, put him in a horrible place surrounded by death, shoot at him every day, have the world and your own government condemn you actions when you didn't get to choose them, and see what happens. Frankly, I'm surprised this hasn't been more of a problem. By and large, the american men and women over there are decent, honorable people just trying to do their jobs and come home again. You say, "Retaliation only brings more killings." Bullshit. Retaliate against the brutal animals that did this and you eliminate their evil pox from the face of the earth. You probably believe that war never solved anything. Sure it did. Look at Germany, Japan, North Korea. The world going to war against those fascist a$$hats sure made solved some problems for Europe, South Korea, and the US. In short, Fark off. -scooby111

  • I found the article very nationalistic, with little reguard for the history between the US and the Middle East. We've been pissing in their pond since 1948 and since 1967 we've been steadily supplying the Israelis with weapons. The loss of life in 9-11 was tragic, as was the murder of Nick Berg. I cried off and on for three days after 9-11 because the pain and the suffering of the people looking desperately for loved onces, likely dead. I'm sickened by what happened to Nick Berg, but this is nothing compared to the wars that have been going on in the Middle East for the past 37 years, with the US backing Israel up. It seems to me the "terrorists" of the Mid East might feel a bit like we already declared war on them a long time ago. I think that it is a necessity of any country to have a strong military backing, because unfortunatly, sometimes war is necessary. I support the troops, who are brave enough to defend this country. I just can't support these politians who have little knowledge in geography or history, but are ready to jump into battle at the first opportunity. Like Vietnam, we never should have stuck our noses in there in the first place. -csatguru
