  • I thought that was last week. -robbor
  • Only a 15 minute walk away from my home, is a large city park where they're celebrating Canada Day, complete with minor league amusement park rides and free concerts, and ending in a big fireworks display. I had to pass it on my way to work today. <grumble> For me, it's happy decent paycheck day at least. -HidariMak
  • Glory to the Great White North! -RandalGraves

  • I'm assuming very NSFW, right? -linuxmatt
  • EXTREMELY NSFW, Linuxmatt. If you go there, you are guarantied to be shocked, perverted and scandalized; you'll find some of the most depraved mental images (Burrkiss stile), and in the end you'll lose your sanity for sure. But there are plenty of boobies. -TheGhost

  • 4. Happy Canada Day and...
To all the Canadian techs and members, Happy Cnada Day. and to any Newfoundlanders, wherever you may be on this earth, remember that today also marks Memorial Day, and take the time to remember those who fell on July 1st, 1916. On the bloodiest day in the history of the British Army (57,470 casualties, 19,240 dead) at the opening of the largest battle (over one million casualties) of the war, Newfoundland had also suffered its gravest military loss. On July 1, 1916, the first day of the Battle of the Somme in World War I, 800 soldiers of the 1st Newfoundland Regiment rose from the British trenches and went into battle at Beaumont-Hamel, nine kilometres north of Albert in France. The next day, only 68 men answered the regimental roll call: 255 were dead, 386 were wounded, and 91 were listed as missing. Every officer who had gone over the top was either wounded or dead.

  • Amen to that, ST. Most people (including us Canadians)aren't aware how many Canucks died in 1 and 11. We have had entire communities "evaporate" into ghost towns from war casualties. But on a positive note, at least the Europeans know, and remember, even if our children don't. -ThinTheHerd
  • There's a lot of people who lost loved ones on the Somme. My grandfatehr's brother was killed 11th july 1916. The Commonwealth War Graves Commission is an execllent site for those looking at this http://www.cwgc.org/default.asp -macbeth
  • Geez I need a new keyboard, this one can't spell -macbeth
  • I had a great-uncle killed at the Somme too. My great-grandmother died six months later - she never got over her son's death and when she developed a brain tumour she had no will to live. Ironically six months after she died they developed an operation that would have removed the tumour. -Nazreel
  • Naz - I understand that all too well... after all, had Fujin gotten that experimental drug (Avastin) 18 months before the end, who knows? (And, of course, there's shades of ST:The Search For God... ) -ShujinTribble
  • See this link: http://www.cwgc.org/search/certificate.aspx?casualty=854758 -Nazreel
  • Australia had the biggest per capita loss of men in WW1 than any other country. Not diminishing the Canadian loss, acknowledgment of brothers in arms. May we never see its like again! -timelady

  • 5. Happy Canada Day, eh?

"Okay, I have your desktop computer package ready to go. I'm going to reccomend two things with it: a USB cable for your printer and one of the AntiVirus programs."

"Well, doesn't it come with that stuff?"

"No, sir. That's why I ask customers before they go."

"Computers always come with that stuff"

"No, not really. None of the ones we sell do, and you'll find it's the same at every major computer store."

"Well, I think you're wrong. When I bought my last computer, it included everything I needed."

"When did you buy your last computer setup?

    "Twelve years ago."

"And how much did you pay for it?"

    "$3,700."

"And how much are you paying for this setup today?"

    "$649"

...Do you see where I'm going with this?

Issue Description: Sub was largely incoherent, but she mentioned that she was not able to get incoming calls, and that the "ID perpetrators" [sic] were tapping her phones and following her, and she couldn't go to the doctor without seeing them, and there was a guy upstairs stealing cable and taking pictures of naked women. Resolution: Sub was angry that the previous tech that xferred her to me did not give any explanation of the issue. Sub refused to give any contact info and eventually hung up.

    it can be painful sometimes..

I was watching Windtalkers last night with my wife. And during a dramatic scene where they struggled to regain their lost radio and save the day, i had this going through my head:

    Yahzee[USA] has dropped the ball.
    Toshiro[NIP] has the ball.
    Toshiro[NIP] was killed by Ender[USA]
    Toshiro[NIP] dropped the ball.
    Yahzee[USA] has the ball.

I'm still married because i waited until after the movie to share these thoughts with my bride.

  • 9. They're paying me

lots of money to be here today. Due to the holiday weekend the regular staff took days off. This leaves us voulenteers to pick up some OT this weekend.

5 hours of my 8 hours: 3 customer calls, 3 calls from 2nd level to send out notices to I.S. about maintenance. I've had time to finish my book, surf a bit, and start in on my Federation Commander rules. 3 1/2 hours to go...and I still have a 3 day weekend followed by a 3 day work week.

  • I had a work related 2 hour course assigned to me by e-mail around 9 or 10 days ago. I received another two early this week. And during my weekend, I show up and find a fourth and fifth new products course waiting for me. I ask about doing one or two of those courses on the weekend, only to be told that it can't be done, due to billing between my contractors and the business. So I get to goof off under pay for the weekend, while hoping I can actually get a chance to train after it. -HidariMak

Ok, I and informed you guys that we have implimented common access cards. NOw instead of just going and doing it full blown they are doing at 3 levels I think. anyway besides that National Guard Bureau decides to change the account police from 120 days to 60 days. We sent out emails 2 days before it hit. Had a screen shot of how to change the password since the cacs put in numbers for username, you clear that out put in domain\Lusername. most of it worked just fine if A) they read the email b) they remembered their old password, yeah that's a feat for some they had been using it for 80 days or so, use a cac for 2 weeks and they forget their password. AND C) coming up with a complex password. Boss told us to just transfer the phones to voicemail and we just scrolled thru the calls.

  • I was discussing, with a defensive driving class, alternative methods to driving home after a party. Several students made the obvious suggestions (taxi, call a friend, etc), but I heard one student in the back of the class whisper to another, "a trebuchet". I burst out laughing, and had to share it with the rest of the class. Not a very accurate conveyance, I'll bet. -DrLecter

  • 16. The hangover, er, aftermath of TSCNWBBQ³
    Now wasn't that a party...
My head feels like a football...

The TSC NW BBQ v3 (zomfg lol rotfl bfd gfy aybabtu) went off swimmingly. Organizer Obie did a hell of a job tossing this together, hosts Ed and Dave opened their charming little home to the hoarde and even made us griddlecakes in the morning (how waffle!), 3p0ch rocked us like a hurricane, Dr. Foo stayed for drinks and looked familiar, 'Crash and Milaar were their lovely and talented selves as usual and Little Green Sprout videogamed the hell out of all takers, Polar Coyote brought two nice ladies, Taterlain stopped in for two bites of beer and a sip of hamburger, DarthLuke was there in spirit and as a choppy face on the webcam for a bit, and obviously I was there testing the TMI meter.

We laughed a lot, drank until we broke that toilet, let sleeping hardware lie, had a wakeup call and visit from Foamy The Squirrel, and there was no lack of pug dogs and friendly black cats with hawk-like talons. And there were boobies, too. Those who were present: man, it's been a slice. Those who weren't: see ya up north, or see ya next year when you accrue some PTO (if you need it) and request some time off then hike/drive/hitch your rumps to TSC NW BBQ Episode 4: A New Hope.

Anglo-Romany, a variety of Romany, survives in England and Wales and consists of Romany words spoken with English grammar and English pronunciation. • Nononono. You open his computer case and check to see if the bios is removable in a socket. If it is, remove it. Or... this is a really dirty trick: If his HDD is IDE, fowl the master/slave jumpers so it won't boot. For everyone I know, jumpers is the last thing people check, because, jumpers don't move by themselves. And they're so tiny and hidden, He'd have to take a good long look at the jumpers. It's not something you can just take a glance at and notice right away. -linuxmatt
  • OR just cut one wire in the ide or scsi cable. Or if it's an SATA cable, scrape out the contacts inside the cable's connector. or carfully remove one wire from the motherboard's power connector, and hide it behind the PSU. Or twist one of the capacitors so the legs short. Or short all the capacitors. Or, take out the processor, remove the heatsink, clean off All of the thermal paste, use a small metal-cutting tool to make a hole in it just the right size for the head of a match, and put the heatsink back on. -linuxmatt

  • Just be careful what voltage you run on there. Trying to boot a computer up with the switch on 230V in a 115V area won't really do much other than prevent it from starting up. 115V in a 230V area, well...*big evil grin*...time to upgrade anyhow...*grins* -Cyan
