But we tried everything! So I get a text message from the office manager of my mom's doctor's office where I do pro-bono support. I figure since they don't charge my mom for her visits, I won't charge them for tech support. Anywho, the text message is asking me to take a look at an old printer they use got test printouts.... I tell them I'll be up there today, and ask what type of printer, and what the issue is. They tell me it's an HP T45, and that it's saying it's not connected when it is, and subsequently isn't printing.... So I check out what type of printer it is, turns out it's an old parallel printer. I stop by the local CompUSA and pick up a centronics-to-usb cable, figuring the cable is bad or the parallel port went south.... I arrive and am led into the exam room, where an older-than-Grue laptop is waiting for me. I flip it over, turn it around, open flaps, looking for a USB port, hoping there's at least one. Nope. Not that lucky. Machine boots and it's Win95. By now I'm ready to tell them to just get a new laptop and printer to save myself the hassle.... I try to print a test page, an error message pops up telling me it's out of paper. I look down at the tray and say, quite loudly, "Bollocks it's out of paper, I see it right here." and now I'm figuring the pick-up roller is shot.... So I reach down to manually feed the paper, and the tray shifts. Not just a little, but fully an inch backwards. I close my eyes, push the tray COMPLETELY into the printer, hit Start, and like magic I get my test page. I have them print a test from the program, and it works like magic.... Best part of the day was telling the office manager what was wrong, and she said "But we tried everything!" I told her she obviously didn't, and next time they put paper in the tray to make sure it's pushed in until you hear the click.... Took me longer to drive to and from than it did to "fix" the issue. And these are people I'm trusting to keep my mother alive... Hrm.

Comments Medicine is not a science, it's more mumbo jumbo and fancy guesswork anymore. So many "pay outrageous fees to become a nurse/LPN/RN/etc" schools process those with limited thinking skills to work in the medical fields that this type of behavior shouldn't come as a surprise anymore. Just sayin' - ecoli Just make sure that any bits they take out of your mom for testing are completely reinserted when they're done, I guess. *grin* - Grue And vice versa too. Make sure anything they put in is not left there by mistake. -Holdfast
