Re: babble of words in spam email. They do that to confuse the Bayesian type spam filters. If the words are valid English (or whatever language), but non-sensical, they are looking to have a number of "ham" words bring the spam score down and the msg gets through. If the words are gibberish non-English, they will have a default score of zero, again bringing down the spam score of the msg. Hope this explains it a little better than it sounds. -virtualchoirboy
Dell laptops not Linux friendly? My Inspiron 9100 dual boots winXP and Mandrake 10.1 community. Two devices don't work properly - the modem (which I don't need) and the wireless network (which I download software for today to install later which should make it work). The thing I expected to be the biggest problem was the widescreen not being a standard reolution (1280x800). In Mandrake 10 I had to configure it as 1024x768 and then make a manual change to the XF86Config-4 file to set it to 1280x800 and it worked strait off. With 10.1 it was autodetected at the correct ratio. I'm rambling - so I'll stop now. -pmillipede

Your agreement about bloodletting being required by the tech gods prove that you have 'experience'. Ouch. -TieDyedDinosaur

let's see, beer cans, a Maryland license plate, half a bicycle tire, a goat… I like to think of myself as one of the happy generations. // damn good coffee! -JohnnyCache
Hi Sal, I for one would like to hear more of your Nynex "tales of woe" -lineswine
Actually, Geeklovepoetry is one of my co-workers. Haha. =) -Blargmanus
Just curious - what do you use for greylisting? With postfix or sendmail or other? -namor
My experience with realtors hasn't been much better. They tend to assume they have the most difficult/important job in the world, and continually push business cards onto people who don't want or need them. In seeking out new clients, they appear to be only slightly less rabid than Amway salesmen. -linkv
Sal, just FYI. The "Cornflaker" worm is called "conficker", and may yet affect you depending on what the millions of infected Windows machines do to the Internet when it activates 1 April. -chazz
Thanks for the encouraging words. I'll be adding info on the particular sect I grew up in, on the blog, so I won't be posting it here, but stay tuned for the name and all. -DarthIndy
