What the Hell?, can\'t we all get along? -Hawk Re WarGames: I covered my ass by immediately asking our QA how I should have handled the call after I released it. They were going to use it in training classes; always ask for "advice" and they become co-conspirators.
My VIPs generally are Doctors. I usually try to say "...er...Doctor...er...Smith" everytime I would have said "Frank" - and I do this even though he really has a simple name like Smith or Jones. Pisses them off royally, and if anyone is call coaching, they can only say that I was taking the time to check my call log to be sure to comply w/the Sub's specific request to be called Dr. Dipshit.
Bye, -deltree/y About venting: I's good to do it here, so don't worry about the idiots who flame you and then use a phony name. It sounds like you really have to put up with a lot of "stuff" from your callers: When someone really gets dirty/nasty with us and we can't get them to calm down, we tell them that we're putting them on "Penalty Hold" and will return in 1 minute, during which time they can decide whether they want to work with me or try another tech. If they say they want another tech, we tell them that we can't transfer them, thank them for calling, release and document the ticket. If someone keeps saying they're going to sue, our instructions are to give them the Legal Department's mailing address and tell them that we are ending the call (even if we're in the middle of troubleshooting the issue), and fully document it in the ticket. -deltree/y after finishing Rant part 1: EVIL! I only worked for AOL for 3 months, so I had no idea they could do that. I only did what I was taught, which from what everyone is saying, is wrong. You're right about me being an old fart: I began networking in 1984 and then went into system administration before I got tired of being paged at 3AM because I covered 5 western states. I work 4 10-hour days a week and enjoy life because I'm able to leave the job at the office. The main thing here is to enjoy the site and exchange info with the other techs.
