Whiteboard

Hey, got your message on my whiteboard. As mentioned already, it is extremely safe if you setup SSH to authenticate via a certificate instead of a password. I don't go that far, personally. What you can do is tell sshd that only certain users can connect via SSH, and generally not root. If you need to be root, you log in with your normal account (not something like "test" either), and su to root. Make certain any user that can SSH in has a password that is sufficiently hard to guess. Having user test with password test is obviously not smart. Having user illiterate with password illi0587x is relatively secure. By the time they figured out you were a legitimate username, and managed to brute force the password, hopefully you'd have noticed the flood of information in your secure log (usually /var/log/secure) and reported them for network abuse. -snJimboip
No cash needed for Goons MP3, just an address to send them to! -lineswine
FC2 is known to have an issue with dual booting. You'd be much better off with FC3. -SalParadise
For your Multi-Boot Pleasure... I suggest XOSL - I have it available for my Radio Show at www.byteme.buffnet.net/cd/ - Go into System Utils to find it. Works wonders for me. -ShujinTribble
We have something in common, yes. Good to know I have a comrade in arms nearby though now I'm paranoid. :) Tell you what, let's keep each other's secrets being posted here secret for the sake of job security [though I was told it was okay to post here, and that I could have the radio on low but then they took my red Swingline and moved my desk...]; we both have starfish (internal and external) to vent freely on. BTW, you are cordially invited to the Northwest TSC Barbecue, July 2 in Sunnyside (if you haven't read the posts about it in the Breakroom message forum). -Mushroom
take my word for it, the chances of getting busted are slim but a 4 month [minimum] supply of balogney sandwich lunches is NOT worth the free internet. check my prev posts/whiteboard for more info. -omegawolf
RE: http://www.techcomedy.com/single/new_stories.php?content_number=48732 Why is "Art Bell" a famous/funny name? -lineswine
OK, it seems the Goons MP3s are just too large for CD & won't go via gmail etc. If you'll send me a sanil mail addy, I'l cut 'em to DVD & get 'em to you that way. -lineswine
What piece of crapware is it that has its' own removal tool? -lineswine
Pls send me your e-mail addy; and I'll e-mail you a resume. -MadJack
I dont own it, but if I did Nextel is doing 99.99 for phone and unlimited Data -LowLevelFormat
Congratulations on the recently-widened keister. >>>>> Re. the "blank space" post: Reminded me of one of the more bizarre grafittis I saw around Berkeley a few years back. Blank walls in urban areas tend to collect tags, burner art, and wheat-pasted ad posters, right? Well, someone was paying attention to where there were freshly repainted walls and construction zone barriers... And would put the words "This Is A Blank Surface" up in two-inch-high letters, using Krylon and a stencil with a slightly odd, feminine-looking font face. What was *really* odd was how long it would take before anyone else would tag or poster those walls: they'd stay otherwise unadorned for waaay longer than normal. -MeanDean

So you support BBs? Good to know, the "powers that be" just saddled me with one of these things...now I know where to go if I "accidentally" crush the thing. -Ithyl
Never even been to Seattle. I'm in the St. Louis, Missouri metro area. -Wolfshead
Maybe you should discuss the beeping watch issue with your wife- -Starlover
Karma on its way to your wife, I hope she gets the job! ps. Thanx for your comment on my messageboard post too, I definitely suggest you use your cc if you want your wife to get a star... I filed a dispute w paypal today as it's been 10 days since my payment went thru and still no star and no replies to my emails. Cheers! -TechnoCat

Hey, what's up with the Andalusians? I haven't work at CL for like...a few months , found something better somewhere else, but I still have contacts, what's up? -DorianGray1884
I'm a bit curious as to where you work... your reference to "Tagalog" got me wondering since i'm based in Manila :) -CrystalMare
Illiterate: You have a PM back from me -deskmonkey
If you boot with xp cd it should go so far then it will say not able to find previous version. Insert a 98 or 2000 cd drive and point to it. It should then return to installation and ask for xp cd again. -LunaticFringe
I'm almost scared to ask, but here goes: just what *did* you do with your "first taste of butt power" ? -EtherRabbit
Sorry for the late reply, I'm a client logic tech for t-<del>mo</del>bile. U? -TekkGeek

If you miss Lonnie, they're still hiring, you probably can get in on the next rotation and enjoy the pay and bennies. -areatech
My thoughts will be with you and your wifey. <slides a mug o' karma down the bar of life> All the best to youse guys. -beerman
Had nuthin' ta do with me, I'm not that clever -Spyder19
"Cold Heat" soldering irons work ok for *very* occasional small jobs, but you can't use them on SMT components or bigger stuff, like industrial wiring. I've got one, but still use my half-dozen different conventional soldering irons. -Ulfgaard
I missed seeing your butt get narrow? :) -Mushroom
Howdy neighbor! (Lake Stevens) -TieDyedDinosaur
This is maven, and no, I don't think I would be the same Maven as Maven-Cit... -maven
I was reading my white board and saw your recent (?) post. I'm still at the big V doing dsl network support, so mostly talking to technicians and not customers. There are a lot of positions opening up in my office. Good pay and bennies, but the pressure from management to perform is there. "You're at 700 why not 650...." let me know if anything turned up. -areatech
Write on my Whiteboard, it will get posted and e-mailed to me.
