Bio: I'm a Network Administrator for a small ISP. I work with Windows, FreeBSD, LINUX, and lots of really stupid customers. 10% of what I do is researching new technologies and applying them, 10% is troubleshooting our network infrastructure and 80% is babysitting problem servers and employees. (Sigh) At least I don't have to take calls from customers very often.

haha. you said band camp. haha.
-CyBear ok call me a nonknowing blindtech but what is this "tin fiol hat" reference all over the site, i read it everywhere on the site but what may i ask does it refer to please? thanks oh and i forgot, a shameless plug for my website if you will: www.epydradio.tk. and this is a lagidament question not spam, but i need hitss for my site, lol. no but if you could answer my question kind sir i would appreciate it. thanks and btw, one more:::sorry::: can you tell me if the movie office space is availible in the video stores, i might have my gf to go get it so i could listen to it. thanks -blindtech it was 2 minutes of NO.........NO..........NO!!!!!. Then I hung up. -burrkiss Yeah, that new job thing sounds like a good idea. I moved recently, causing me to be a few minutes late here and there. I just found out tonight that the company has grounds to fire me for that. Good thing my sup is "overlooking" it. -Clavenater How do passwords stop a FFR? Anyone? Anyone?
How do passwords stop a FFR? - Simple, Set Bios only to boot of IDE, disable FDD & CD Boot, password Bios, Glue Battery to Motherboard (and reset link) - Weld case closed, connect F8 key to mains... -Wonko The Sane HEY!!! I did elf bowling. That was fun!!! Although I sure wouldnt have emailed it to someone, but I did sent the link, its a little faster (and smarter) <breaks arm patting himself on back> -burrkiss hey scoob, could you sort me out with shutdown.exe? i think i could use that in my software toolkit -maidtina Scoob, my ISP kinda uses dialup as a backup service, though they do sell it as a main service to poor bastards like myself. Their big moneymaker is wireless broadband, which I wish they'd install out here. I am just a mile or two outside the radio footprint of their nearest tower... my entire community is without broadband, and they would make a killing if they'd just find a place to put up an antenna. Being that we're in the foothills of the Rockies doesn't help that part of things, though.. -Jay911 Before the kids, a nice home cooked candlelight dinner and a movie for two was plenty. Have the S.O. put a couple of steaks on the grill, some fresh veggies, and a potato, wash down with some nice wine and curl up in front of the TV. Total cost for whole evening: <$40. -virtualchoirboy Guess I shoulda mentioned I was replying about *that* day in the middle of February. My apologies for any confusion. -virtualchoirboy Hey scoob... in response to your response, i HAVE to let them setup the network printers, they all over the states in the "Local Corner Copy Store" (that is merging w/ FedEx, or commanly known as Konkos..... if they'd let me go install it i would... just makes you want to <shudders>... dang, there it goes! -duckhead Scoob, re NT boxes, here's a useful site: http://www.jsiinc.com/ Just in case you haven't seen it? -CTYankee Easy there, tiger. I think you're being a bit presumptuous. I was expressing my opinion in reference to the post, not to you. No need to make this into something it's not. -dobbin Yes, I work with RiffRaff. I used to be on here earlier under another name, but then someone attempted to stalk me. Had to lay low for a bit, but now I've resurfaced, (some would go further and say I've resurfaced like Herpes, but I digress...:-) -vacuumtubes I take it the comment on my co-worker type wasn't how I read it... looks like you were telling me to GFY... why? -fearmyroot Mmmfff, Muunnn, Mmmm, GRRRRRR, OW, Aggghhh, Hobbles away on crutches..... -RTFM When making the cable do I get a bonus if I can make a null modem one as well :) -Hellion I'm so shocked... I got you to laugh.... usually it's the other way around (on a pretty consecutive basis)!!!! Thanks, you made my day! -duckhead If your scooby 111 where are all the other 110 scooby's? -LowLevelFormat Hey Scooby, where "The Desert, WA"????? -duckhead hey scooby, the song got posted twice (the 2nd one is verson 2.5, the first one i missed a couple of lines...) I did the song at home, and grabbed the wrong one this morning. As for the comments, i have no clue, mayber server hiccup???? -duckhead hey scooby, been busy??? haven't seen you post all day until now.... just wondering... oh, and i get my weekly pardon in about 7 minutes, so it'll be awhile if you send me a message... -duckhead -DelComment Re: Wrong Mouse! HAHAHA
Hi ... I took out a free membership specifically to ask you to delete or edit the one-word comment you posted on the above mentioned article. Most browsers are unable to split that very long word and so they expand the width of their window to accomodate it. Result? You'd need a monitor about five feet wide to get rid of the horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the screen. That means *everybody* must scroll their browser window left and right to be able to read the site, which is really very inconvenient. -DelComment WTF? Sorry, you can't delete comments, just posts. If you want it deleted, you'll have to get the person who posted the story to delete the entire story. The whole point of the comment was designed to highlight the fact that the story had a long string in it that forced you to scroll.
Thus I find your request quite ironic. Refering to: http://www.techcomedy.com/single/new_stories.php?content_number=25568
-scooby111 Actually the EU's are dumb... but I'm not sure I could actually explain why branding intrigues me the way it does :) -teivrann Hey Scoob, sorry for the delay in getting back with you. Been working my rear end off to finish a project for a company and I have just now got time to drop you this. Sure no problem on the username and password. I will make your username scooby111, unless you want something different and you can email your password to kcgibson@cableone.net. I do not have the server set up for automation and generation of passwords for the simple reason of security headaches in doing so. So when I get your email with the password you want to use I will post your username, password and IP location of the ftp server to your whiteboard.....ha ha..just kidding I will email everything back to ya. Have a great day. -UWannaPlay If you really don't know ABBA, they are Agnetha Fältskog, Björn Ulvaeus, Benny Andersson and Anni-Frid Lyngstad, a Swedish pop group who had all been successful elsewhere before forming ABBA. They recorded from 1970 until 1982 (although they were not known as ABBA until late 1973) and had a number of hits including just one #1 in the USA and several in the UK. -EmleyMoor CCIE? DAMM that is impressive if you pull that off. How much is that costing you? once again, big big PROPS if you pull that off -Bunglehawk069 Scoob, the ASCII Star Wars was the coolest thing I've seen in a long time! -Tekkie Your mind tricked you into thinking -- that you have a brain" -scooby111
This one is a double edged sword/insult to the SF, glad that I could entertain YOU for a change, I laugh at your stuff everyday, keep it comin. -THETECHFROMHELL Eastern Washington? I left the desert (Yakima, Toppenish, Selah) cuz there were no jobs. :) -Mushroom Gecko decided to whine and bitch because Otto, being rather poor right now and in the middle of a lawsuit, asked K1W1, who agreed, to post a song. Gecko compared it to welfare. However, because I know Otto personally, I can truly say he's a really hard worker who just got stuck at a really crappy job; he basically had the choice to buy a star or pay bills. Bills kind of come first, at least in my own thoughts, but apparently not Gecko's as Gecko continued it by telling him to work instead of read TSC; Otto reads TSC at work and posts from work between calls. As a result, since Otto is a friend in reality, not just here, I bought his star for him so that Gecko can't give him a hard time about stars. -taieena Thanks for the heads-up on ISDN. Never used it or had to set it up. Should I consider myself lucky? -CTYankee look at the comment under my story-then u will get it. -postal tech "produced anally from a fat man's brown eye" haha! that's just as funny as "giving anal to a shitting bear's ass" XD -goblin69 oops, "oral" (slinks away in embarASSment) -goblin69 Re: your comment on my post and subsequent rant on some peoples' need to do a little hand-waving and dismiss an entire company for someone's oversight: A lot better put than I could ever do, and much appreciated. I don't know what's up with some people. -soccerdude Fuck, man, you slay me. "Mr. I'm so Smart" says so. *grin* -teivrann Thanks Scoob...that plugin will come in handy. -phsspok hey scoob, if you could email me your judges scoring to michael.dixon2@comcast.net, i would apprectiate it.. -duckhead Hey Scoob thanks.. now which one is CD? lol -rockytech We had the BBQ date wrong on the site, its the 3rd. Looks like its been fixed. -DarthLuke Regarding the "Tech' poem": Well, I got it from a Yahoo group, I think it's called Tech' Moral Support (I said tink, because I blew it; I killed all msgs in my inbox at Yahoo <bangs head on desk>) -Dr Jerkyl i'm sending out a card for persephone, what's your mailing address -omegawolf Scoob, it sounds like it's you, me, Milaar, Mushroom, Xiphiplastron (sp?), Obie099, and of course DarthLuke for the BBQ. And at least three little kids. :) -snowcrash "if you're living your life so as to not give 'offense' you're not living your life, someone else is." - Scooby, you are the fount of wisdom, I love your comment, truely -CommanderData http://postmaster.info.aol.com/tools/index.html this might help scobby...the blocking of Home IPs is probably a way of dealing with netsky/zomibed machines...if more SF actually secured their systems their would not be a need for this...The bigger the ISP the more they are gonna be hit with it...And sorry for sounding off in Mr Thous post old sore spaot m8... -Waylander Hey Scooby111, thaks for looking into the XP issue for me. This computer is for my 10 year old step-daughter and she only speaks spanish. Any information you can provide would be greatly appreciated. Email me at dcadiman@hotmail.com to communicate more directly.
Thanks again. -Dcadiman scoob... can I keep the Richland information offer open for later? -srteach Probably not turning blue yet--it's a contract position. But isn't everything, technically? Will try and turn blue if I can--if not, I'll go back to school and eventually fulfill my dream of becoming a network security goddess. *hug* Thanks for your support, scoob! :) -snowcrash Do you usually call people 'bub'. Only asking coz I've always kinda had a mental image of you as Wolverine.... -CommanderData You know what I meant :) -EvilOtto Is it just me, or are you on a major Pratchett kick today :) -Mahal Lemme guess. You got Colour of Magic at your desk/on an ebook/on a hearing book/on your person? -Mahal aaaaand you know what you've done? Forced me to read through all of today's post several times to try and track down the Pratchett references :) Cheers for a good day! -Mahal Hey scoob! Have you only just discovered pratchett, or are you just on PTerry kick at the moment? Either way, make sure you read the Annotated Pratchett File (http://www.ie.lspace.org/books/apf/index.html) -Shaede it's been a couple of years since I read "Good Omens". Thanks for reminding me how fricken funny it is. I'm gonna dig out my copy when I get home :) -Hellion Psstt - http://www.ie.lspace.org/books/pqf/ -Hellion Regarding your OT logging: NONONONONO!!! You gotta work for an outfit like the one I work for. OT is logged from leave the driveway to back in the driveway - company vehicle, so you just log total miles. -Grue HI this is spicygirl known as becky we met at the party. I think you are a nice guy all the thing you did were awsome keep in touch horse_r_e_8athot mail .com so bots don't get me -spicygirl shit scoob, you'd be worth at least a hundred to get rid of! ;) -obie099 "stop looking for my grow operation" <ROFLMAO> I've known people just about that dumb. -concept14 Good luck with your Charter b/s. I feel your pain, they never let me ACTUALLY help the customer. Best advice: Go to dish. -Zentar Let me just say sorry now and avoid the rush! -obie099 Using a simile to attack the overuse of similes was a nice ironic touch. V. funny. BTW the analogy overkill was QUITE intentional, have you ever read any Dashiell Hammett? -Digital Dogcow ok, only if you swear... but hey... I was warned early on that storing passwords was bad for you, your comp, AND the website involved... was trying to cover my bases... A$$H#T!! (oh shit, that wasn't M33!!! LOL) -HappyCrappy Sounds like your office mate has a Nextel phone. Those make that nice interference near ANY RF-sensitive unshielded device. AT&T Wireless old-style (and some new) phones will set off radar detectors just before they ring. That was actually useful, it gave me time to turn down the stereo before answering the phone. -Grue Just curious on how you get Firfox to run from a flash drive. Not something I would have even thought about doing or may ever need but....Thanks. -Rabbitt I was a little sad to see your comment on not celebrating your birthday any more. You know the TSC community would care (if we knew your birthday <g>) -BritishBunny If you don't mind my asking, what power company do you work for? I work for a small outfit that sells line monitors and do all the software development. Just curious and feel free to tell me nothing. -virtualchoirboy Scoob - STFU on your comment about 99% of cops being power hungry jerks. I'll bet you're the type the bitches to high heaven the we should be out doing real work when you get pulled over for driving like an asshat. - This comment ment to be offensive to you. -redevil34 It's a fucking joke. Grow a sense of humor. Did it strike too close to home for you? No, I don't speed or drive like an asshat. I believe in obeying the law. All law, not just the ones that I happen to agree with. -- Get bent. -scooby111 appreciate the backup. was starting to feel like a voice in the wildreness there!. :) -Digital Dogcow testing -scooby111 Scoob, how was my time (Olympics 00.30) i think it might be up for a bronze? (i'm talking desk to fresh air) -kerching I grabbed the last one of the G-Mail invites you posted to the message board. Thanks. -HidariMak I hope your not pissed at me for pulling out the image ability from sigs. Nothing but love, I did not realize it was even there....sorry. -Hawk hi scoob, its your friendly neighborhood blind programmer with a screw driver. lol. that's what a fellow tech discribed me as once. but seriously, you going to continue with that end of world or end gme story? what's the details?? programmers with screw drivers sit on the end of their seats. thanks -blindtech I agree with the lack of choice, but at the same time, it's nice for an ISP to keep tabs on their outgoing mail usage. It's a win/lose situation. We get people who complain about it, then again, most of them are so f'ing clueless about running it, they would just waste our time on having us support it. -Bunglehawk069 You mentioned in a story that you redirected everyone's "My Documents" folder to the server... did you do that in the registry under that "Shell Folders" key? (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Shell Folders\) Or is there some way to do that using some sort of network admin user edit utility? (It would be cool to change the desktop to a network share too... hmmmm... whole new worlds of possibilities opening up here.) -EagleEye do you want to car-pool up to seattle to see LaserGuru? -areatech Tech Sprite? Ehh.. I'm thinking more like a tech zombie. -NightSteel Not the G5 towers no, its in regard to the new flatscreen G5 iMacs http://www.apple.com/imac/ -Digital Dogcow "Half the fun is learning on the job. I love plugging things in and moving them from port to port until I get it right.... err, we're still talking about routers, right? " Scooby, you were just at www.asstomouth.com wernt you? <BFEG> -burrkiss Actually, we just let the boss know we were tired of walking him through everything and he just was not learning. She knows we don't complain just to complain and she also knows we do whatever we can to resolve "issues" before she has to offically step in. Like I said, a great boss. She trusts us and we know she will do what she can to "protect" us from the higher ups. In return, we make sure she only sees real problems (i.e. she sees very little starfish bull-puckey). 8-) -TechOgre Hi Phil, I could use tsshutdn.exe. Many thanks... -lineswine Hey, isn't that oreo cookies not someones lunch (the obscure reference). -Flexo Hey Scoobie, What did Eggshen do to upset every one? Was away for a while. -jas75249 D800 w/ 17" WUGA widescreen? If so i have a question. -DedSysOp Well sorry about it, but I have no control over starfish migratory patterns. I guess ever since Ah-nold was elected and Bush re-elected, all the predominatly democrat districts(exept Marin) decided that it was enough. If I had any control over it, believe me, you would hear reports of starfish driving in mass quantities into the SF bay from the Golden Gate. Not to mention elsewhere. Maybe I could suggest the thought to some starfish and try it out...hmmm.<BFEG> -BayAreaTech Teabag...IUD...ewww. That one's gonna leave a mark. -Owie Seeing that fake e-mail address in the comment you posted reminded me - have you ever gone to http://www.datapimp.com and set up an e-mail address on any of their WONDERFUL domains? Mail will also reach me at eat-shit@kissmyfuckingass.com -Grue Hey, Scoob. Sorry to bug you with this, but I'm wondering if you've had a minute to look at the possibilities as to why PPTP isn't allowing me to access the internet?
http://tinyurl.com/62wv2
As you may recall, you suggested a PPTP connection as a VPN to allow sharing files. This was a great idea, and works perfectly, but I can't get to the internet through the PPTP tunnel. That is, though I can access my own internal network, I can't access the internet. You said you had a similar config. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks.
J -BTcall Thanks a bunch for your help with my Firefox. Sadly enough, I don't think I would have thought of an extension (for some weird reason). Thanks again. -UnderLord Where we live (Indiana) you can get canned for wearing the wrong shade of lipstick. It's an 'at will' state. One of only 3 left in the union. I could sue to get my job back, but whose to say that in 3 months they won't fire me for wearing the wrong shoes. I have re-applied at my old job, it's just that they are very weary of another insurance risk. -persephone Well, yes, I just went to a better place. The Netherlands, though. Pity, I think the Good Doctor would have loved it here... then again, he went the way he probably wanted to go: drunk, stoned, ripped, twisted and in the middle of an explosion of violence and bad craziness... -HunterSThompson Hey Scoob, I was just rereading my posts (and subsequent comments) and it may turn out that your dire prediction was right about sonograms. My wife had at least 5 sonograms performed during the pregnancy and my daughter was born with a heart defects. I am curious if there are any studies that might link the two. -Dcadiman Pfffft. I only tried to hook up a sub's DVD to our boxes once. Doesnt take dual inputs. -burrkiss "Thanks Burrkiss. That will go down in history as the very first time I've actually had to spit my drink before it came out my nose." One trys to do ones best. :D -burrkiss re Smoothwall discounts - send me a mail (smellystudent@gmail.com) and I'll send you a nice pricelist :-) -smellystudent hey scoob, need your help please go here http://www.techcomedy.com/members/message_board/viewtopic.php?p=35879#35879 and give info if you can, since i know your some kind of network god or something of that nature, i know you of all people would have info. thanks -blindtech sending you a bmp cause i need eyes real quick on a problem, need to kno how to get menu bar and folder list back. if you need anything clicked my gf could do that for me. just eplain as you would to any end user please. thanks blindtech -blindtech Glad to see the light of the big butted scoob has not gone dim and continues to shine down on us. -Rabbitt Hey, Scooby, I'm sorry if anything I said offended you in the break room in DD's thread. While I may not be a "Christian" after seeing too many things that I do not agree with, I do think that all people deserve to have their religions respected. With that being said, I meant no offence when I jumped in. :/ -taieena Cool. Give me a time and address so I can generate myself a Yahoo map? -NightSteel hey scoob, just seeing if you're still around (seeing?) but yah. i understood what you were saying from your standpoint and felt many people were being really rude about it. i really hope you didn't leave us and hope to hear from you. thanks -blindtech Hi Scoob - just wanted to say its good to see a comment from you. Kinda missed having you around, mate. -Gromit Greetings... long time no, ummmmm, type? Oh well, just wanted to say howdy! -duckhead Hey! When I was young there was no dirt at all. So we had to make our own. We had to make all our food from scratch. But first we had to make our own sctatch. You should be so lucky to live this long. Good luck. Most folks don't so any day above ground is good. -atomicbill hey scooby... where are ya??? what'cha doin???? you gonna say something... where's that amazing wit of yours???? You still alive or what??? -duckhead Thanks for the congrats! Happy holidays to you and yours, man. -NightSteel
